Thar She Blows

The above shot was taken from the satellite-cam I had installed about a month ago in order to keep track of various things including storm systems, air traffic and my gradual hair loss. Typhoon Number One, in a parade of typhoons that dance their merry way across the Pacific Rim this time of year, hit our area last night leaving in its wake a lot of messy hair and broken umbrellas. As I type this it is still creating a wind of immense proportions, but thankfully the rain that accompanied it yesterday has moved on. Needless to say, typhoons put a damper on anything resembling activities out of doors and therefore I'm at the computer typing meaningless garbage to an unknown readership.

Last Sunday, it was my wife's 30th birthday and to celebrate the occasion I blew up a hundred balloons or so and bought her some kickass running shoes. She was more than happy and we went and had some dinner at a nice little Italian restaurant in Sobudaimae that allows dogs. It also allows a lot of foreigners as the ratio was about 5:1 in favor of the Japanese, which is usually not the case. I am, more often than not, the only dirty white boy in a sea of black hair wherever we go so it's nice to hear some English once in a while. The young girl behind us was born in North Dakota and knew everything about her home state. Her granddad was asking her questions like, 'What is North Dakota's state flower?' and she would tell him like she was reciting the names of her friends. I wonder why they waste so much time in America's schools filling children's minds with needless tidbits of information like this? Guess there really isn't much more to know about America.

Went to the skatepark last Sunday as the typhoon was closing in and had a hoot. The humidity was unbelievable though and in a matter of minutes I looked as though I had just crawled out of a river. Shorts are a must from here on in. Can't wait to get out of this weather and sit on a patio in Edmonton somewhere with a cold Alley Kat product.
