Aah, the Sunday Drive

Last Sunday was the 9-hour BMXtravaganza known only as Two-Guys-Drive-Around-in-Sunday-Shopping-Traffic-to-Ride-Two-Spots. Street riding in another part of the city other than yr own in this country often involves driving. I warn each and every person who reads this story, whether you live here or not, to take this under advisement: DO NOT GET INTO A CAR IN JAPAN, ESPECIALLY ON A SUNDAY, IF IT CAN BE AVOIDED! It will make you nauseous. The constant starting only to stop ten feet later for a good 10 kilometres made me want to take my bike out of the back of the car and bash it repeatedly against the skulls of myself and my fellow motorists. The fact that a road rider and guys on motorbikes smaller than themselves were hauling past us didn't help the situation much, but thanks to some good music and the wonders of air conditioning I was able to suppress my animal instincts and instead turn my attention to a bladder that wanted to burst, a stomach that was eating itself and a hip that sent white pain throughout my entire body an average of every ten to fifteen seconds. Needless to say, I have decided to stay as far away from the evils of automobiles as possible for the remainder of my time in this country.

The picture on the left is of a bank to wall in the Tama Center area. It is a wonderful thing of beauty. On my previous visit to this spot there was a nice graffiti mural covering the entire wall, but it looks as though the city has decided against anything resembling creativity in this part of Tokyo.

The picture on the right is of a statue of a woman (I believe) that has the fortune of being built on top of an addictively rideable piece of architecture that might be described as one leg of the pants from the Ants in Your Pants game turned upside-down or the bottom of a stem of a wineglass or an inverted Albertan tornado or your brain on drugs. Why don't you decide for yourself then? Ta!
